WHAT WE DO

SolarNow sells high quality solar energy solutions in Uganda and Kenya. The products meet European quality standards and come with installation and up to 5 years warranty. The company further provides 5 years free service to its clients. Clients can opt to pay the products in monthly installments.

We offer our solutions to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Our focus is particularly on solutions that are used to generate income or reduce energy costs. Indeed, solar energy is a clean, affordable and reliable alternative for traditional energy access.

Willem has over 19 years experience in establishing and managing social enterprises in Africa, in particular in the field of microfinance and renewables. In 2001, Willem co-founded ProCredit Bank Ghana and then later became the MD. He also co-founded Catalyst Microfinance Investors (CMI), a USD 125m private equity fund investing in microfinance Institutions in Africa and Asia and from that co-founded ASA International, a network of Greenfield MFIs. In 2010, Willem transformed the award-winning Rural Energy Foundation into SolarNow and has served as CEO since its inception.

Willem enjoys windsurfing and discovering new parts of the Ugandan countryside with his wife and three children.

Lars has over 20 years of experience from the ICT industry from Ericsson Telecommunications, where he has led large organizations in Europe, USA, Latin America. The last 8 years in Africa where he was EVP/COO for Ericsson Sub Saharan Africa, covering 44 countries. He has also managed the Ericsson group wide working capital transformation program with a dedicated focus in RPA, Digitization and efficient process re-engineering.

On his spare time, he enjoys training, family and developing his passion for barbeques

Emma is a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers UK, currently based in Nairobi, Kenya where she leads the development of PwC’s business with international donors across East Africa. Andrew is a Venture Capital investor and Managing Partner at Novastar Ventures Ltd. He was also a founder of SPARK Ventures, one of the UK’s leading early stage venture capital firms. Jan Willem van der Velden

Board Member

Jan Willem van der Velden is a lawyer with over 20 years of experience.
